2007 - Collapsing The Ribbon
The next time you open a message, try double-clicking the Message tab in =
the
Ribbon. You can save a lot of screen real estate by collapsing the Ribbon.
Plus, once you collapse the Ribbon it will stay that way for all messages=
you
open! By default, the Ribbon is always visible.
If you're reading a message and need to take some action (i.e. Reply,
Forward, or Delete), you can either single-click the Message tab to pop o=
ut
the Ribbon temporarily.

Your PC Beat The Heat
Serious heat and delicate PC electronics are not a good combination if you
want to keep your PC running smoothly. Your PC should be located in a roo=
m of
moderate temperature (not too hot or too cold), not situated on top of a
direct heat source, and not placed directly in the sun. Care should be ta=
ken
to keep the PC's vents clear of dust and debris, and to keep the vents
unblocked (don't have anything directly in front, behind, or to the side =
of
the PC reducing flow of warm air from the inside to the outside of the PC=
).
Also, keep your laptops out of the trunk of your car during the summer
months. Bring it with you.
The typical symptom of an overheating computer is when it locks (freezes =
up)
too much and issues errors of General Protection Failure ("This prog=
ram
has carried out an illegal operation and will shut down") and the
infamous "blue screen of death".
What Can You Do?
Adjust the power settings. In Windows XP, go to the Start menu, se=
lect
the Control Panel, click Performance and Maintenance if you're in Category
View, and choose Power Options. That dialog box lets you set your compute=
r's
hard drive and display to turn off after a specified period of disuse. You
can also configure the computer to go into standby or hibernate modes as
well. These options help keep your computer from heating up when you're n=
ot
using it. You can adjust power settings in earlier versions of Windows, t=
oo,
usually through the Control Panel. The steps sometimes differ from those I
just described, however.
Shut down. When you're done for the day, shut down your computer. =
It
needs the rest as much as you do.
